7xEli: In the beginning was the Word (short for writers), Part One
Her name is Ely. Her main contribution to Social Freaks – copywriting. Ely combines Victorian manners with a rather peppery tongue, she doesn’t perceive grammar as a restraint and often enough unwillingly causes neurotic state in the office. Her tranquilizer – the clattering noise of the keyboard, her beauty blog MaquiLab and afternoon candy. She’s been writing ever since she was a teenager but for the past 5 years she’s been drifting away from lyrical deviations and keeping close to copywriting.
7xEly = Infinity
(a short interview with the unexpendable Ely)
You get inspired by..?
As of July 2016 my thoughts are mainly occupied with pink flamingos, pineapples and tropical leaves. Apart form that I find endless inspiration in Japanese culture, calm evenings, my favorite fantasy authors and strongly spiced Bloody Mary.
What’s it like to be a copywriter in Bulgaria?
It’s a position that encompasses many other positions. Unfortunately you can hardly do only copywriting – it’s mostly and “additional” activity that decorates advertising and marketing. I think that in the ideal case copywriting is not supposed to be an office, 9-to-5 job even if you’re “tethered” to an employer. This scenario often turns the whole creative process into a self-serving scribbling on the conveyor belt just for the purpose of “writing something”. I’ve also noticed that in Bulgaria the terms copywriting and content writing are often diluted – for better or for worse.
For you being part of a creative team is..?
Fun! Intense, sometimes very intense! Sometimes your most favorite ideas get smashed into pieces and you have to accept that. But if this pressure doesn’t kill you, being part of a creative team can be rather fun and satisfying – seeing the birth and maturity of a bunch of ideas, either your or your colleagues’.
The sea or the mountains? Where can we find you this summer?
Unfortunately in the city! I’m in love with the sea – I’d love to live near it. The mountains are a source of infinite peace for me so it’s really hard to put one before the other. On second thought, I think I would always pick the sea. But let’s not be extreme – we have both sea and mountains. 🙂
A new beginning or an unexpected end?
I love new beginnings and the unknown in the equation. Experience has often shown me that things don’t always work according to plan. Even if things don’t go too well and the ending is unexpectedly bad a new beginning is always coming. I’m curious to see what it is.
You dream about..?
I dream about a small yacht, anchored on an island with no cars. I dream about a small cabin with a sea view and a bartender who is available 24/7. I’m not kidding! But if I have to be more realistic – I dream about having the time and the opportunity to write and travel more.
Beauty is in..?
I’ve been through many different definitions of beauty – all of them distant from those of Kant. These definitions are so different when you are 16 and 28. Right now I’m finding beauty in tranquility and the balance between expectations and reality. I’m learning.
